Wayne Schmidt
January 31, 1943 – December 24, 2025
Wayne Schmidt was born on January 31, 1943, in Rosenberg, Texas, to William "Bill" Schmidt and Leola Schwettmann Schmidt, who preceded him in death. He passed away on December 24, 2025, in Needville, Texas, at the age of 82.
Wayne is survived by his daughter, Denise Schmidt Ramey (Michael), and son, Andy Schmidt (Michelle); his grandchildren Chase Ramey (Toria), Jonathon Schmidt (Katie), Casey Ramey Castaneda (Jason), and Austin Schmidt (Haley); and great-grandchildren Blair and Slade Ramey. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Janice Schmidt Nowak and Shirley Schmidt, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, also welcoming Wayne into Heaven are his brothers Allen Ray, Arthur Lee, and Roger, sister-in-law Annette, and baby granddaughter Emily Ramey.
Wayne was raised in Needville, where his parents farmed. He grew up coming to Immanuel Evangelical Church where he was baptized, confirmed, married, worshipped, served on the consistory, and now having his final service.
Visitation will be held at Immanuel Evangelical Church, 9018 Church Street/Needville, TX 77461, on Tuesday, December 30th at 4:00pm for family and for the public from 5:00-7:00pm. The Funeral Service is at 10:00am on Wednesday, December 31st at the church. Graveside Services will follow in the Immanuel Church Cemetery.
After graduation from Needville High School in 1962, Wayne worked for Mrs. Baird's (twice), United Texas Transmission Pipeline, and finally retired as a LCISD bus driver in 2013.
During his younger days, Wayne played fast pitch softball for the Needville Merchants with his brothers, Kalinowski cousins, and the Wendt boys. He coached and served as President on the boards for Rosenberg Little League and Rosenberg Roughneck Football. He loved watching the Texans, Cowboys, and Astros, but his absolute favorites were any sport that the Aggies or Needville Blue Jays were playing. He was so proud to be the recipient of the 2018 Needville Athletic Booster Club Honorary Lifetime Member award.
The family of Wayne was blessed to have the best son, brother, Dad, and Pepaw. We want to thank his longtime neighbors on Easy Street, Jeanette (Floyd) Psencik, Ernest and Maria, along with the Conroy Family for their friendship with Dad. During the past 13 months, Dad had wonderful caretakers, Diane and James Bell who became family. The staff at Oak Bend Skilled Nursing especially Sheree, Anne, and Andrea treated him as a VIP. Most recently, Dad moved back to Needville to Village Forest Care Cottage. Jessica, Janie, Deserie, Stephanie, and Krista made sure he was loved and cared for until the very end. Lastly, we want to thank Elizabeth, Mary, Candace, and Ada with Windsor Hospice for providing him with comfort and love.
Memorials may be given in the name of Wayne Schmidt to Needville Athletic Booster Club, P. O. Box 892, Needville, TX 77461 or to Immanuel Evangelical Church Memorial Fund, or to the IEC Cemetery Fund, P. O. Box 505, Needville, TX 77461.
