Vlasta was born July 20, 1920 in Shiner, Texas to Steve and Christina Michalec. She graduated in 1935 from St. Ludmila's High School Academy in Shiner and shortly thereafter left Shiner to attend St. Mary's Nursing School in Galveston, graduating with a degree as a registered nurse. She used to tell the story of how her daddy would drive her in the horse pulled carriage to the train station in Flatonia so she could get to Galveston. When money was needed to pay her tuition, Grandpa Michalec would sell one of his cows.

After graduation, she went to work at the Sugar Land hospital where she met Freddie. They were married on September 25, 1943. Shortly thereafter he left for service in the Navy. Vlasta went home to Shiner to work at the hospital until Freddie finished his service. After Freddie was discharged, they moved back to Sugar Land where she worked as a nurse at Laura Eldridge Hospital. In 1949 she went to work for Polly Ryon, a new hospital that opened in Richmond. She started at the hospital before it was open to the public and provided care to local residents for just over 31 years. After her retirement, she took care of Freddie, her garden and her flowers. She loved to cook, knit and crochet. In December of 2002, she was honored by Polly Ryon Hospital for her 31 years of service.

She is survived by her daughter Mary Ann Grayless and son-in-law Robert N. Grayless of Rosenberg.

She was predeceased by her son Freddie Trahan, Jr. who died in October of 2006. She also leaves behind, to mourn her loss, 7 Grandchildren, Jeff Grayless and wife, Julissa, Bobby Grayless and wife, Jackie, Daryll Trahan, Phillip Trahan and wife, Cheyenne, Kyle Trahan and wife, Jessica, Alex Trahan and Alaina Trahan, and her daughter-in-law, Katherine Schultz Trahan; Great grandchildren, Heather Grayless, Lacy Fenske, Jordan Grayless, Jeremy Grayless, Landen Grayless and Kaelee Trahan; two Great-great grandchildren, Kate Fenske and Silas Trahan.
