Viola Grace
Foss
Apr 1, 1924 — Jan 9, 2021
Needville
Viola Grace Foss passed away peacefully on January 9, 2021, at the age of 96. She was born April 1, 1924, in Needville, TX, the first of eight children. Viola joins her family who preceded her in death: her parents John and Fannie Hurta, husband Clarence Foss, daughter Sandra Kunz, and son Byron Foss, along with sisters Gloria Pavlas and Lorene Novosad, and brothers Marvin and Allen Hurta.
She is survived by her son Terrell (Terry) Foss and wife Shannon, along with grandchildren Kimberly Dilone, Kristin Jones, Carly Tomeo, and Austin Foss. Great grandchildren are Brittany Leach, Anthony Dilone, Robert Dilone, Arianna Jones, McKenzie Jones, Tyler Lloyd, and Ryder Leach. Those familiar with the Foss/Hurta family tree will understand our not listing all spouses, aunts, uncles and cousins - it's a big tree, one full of love.
Viola, known to many as Vee, was the matriarch and anchor of the family – her love of gatherings and traditions instilled in us the importance of family. She loved quilting, polka music, tending to her garden, and what everyone fondly remembers – cooking. But we can't honor Viola's life without speaking of what she took on as God's mission assigned to her – the caring love she gave her son Byron, a Down Syndrome child. It was a special relationship that few of us can live up to and was her calling in life. The kindred spirit between the two was a shining example of love and devotion at its finest.
Tributes and remembrances of Viola's life may be shared with the family at www.garmanycarden.com.
In honor of her love of flowers, please go and plant one in her name.
St. Paul's Presbyterian church in Needville, TX, was the other important family in her life – she was 3 weeks old when the church was established with her parents as founding members. Viola requested that if donations are considered to be made, please make to St. Paul's Presbyterian Memorial Fund.
We would like to thank family and friends for your support and assistance with her care, especially Eva Costancio who provided loving care for the last several years. We all were truly blessed by Viola's time with us and give thanks to God for a life well lived.
