Mrs. Sojourner passed away on Friday, September 27, 2013, at her residence, Cambridge Square Assisted Living. She was born February 16, 1914, in East Bernard, Texas, to the late Edward Louis and Helena Lisette Koym Behrens. She grew up on the family farm in the Beasley-Tavener area. She met and married the love of her life, Edward Sojourner.
For the past nine years, Mrs. Sojourner has resided at Cambridge Square Assisted Living, moving from her home in Rosenberg. Prior to her husband's death in 2001, the two of them lived in cities and towns all over Texas. They met when they both were employed by the railroad company; thus her connection to the Rosenberg Railroad Museum, having been given a Life Membership in 2001. Viola was a devoted wife and loving life partner to Ed. Having no children of their own, their extended families became their immediate family and she loved her family dearly. Her sharp wit and wonderful sense of humor made her a joy to be around. She was looking forward to celebrating her 100th birthday next February!
She is survived by her extended family, Karen Behrens Sikes (Ron) & family, Nancy Behrens Urbanek (Dale) & family, Janis Behrens Gardner (Lewis) & family, Roy Behrens, Jr. (Eve) & family, Larry Behrens (Bobby Jo) & family, Gayle Behrens Goldapp (Jimmy), Debbie Mikeska Brown, Jada Mikeska, Brittany Aiken Van Horn & family, and Mike and Beth Sojourner & family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; her 3 brothers, Ben, Barney, and Roy; 1 sister, Cora Meyer; 3 sisters-in-law, Olga, Pearlie, and Della; and niece Vernell Mikeska Aiken.
Pallbearers include Ron Sikes, Dale Urbanek, Roy Behrens, Jr., Lewis Gardner, Harold Gardner and Mike Sojourner.
