Tae-U-Kim, Tammy's Korean name, was born in Seoul Korea on August 25, 1966 to James and Young Kook Kim. Tammy was the youngest of 6 children; sister Judy, brother Jimmy, sister Brenda, sister Kathy and sister Shina.

Tammy contracted polio when she was 5 years old while playing in a ditch by her house in unsanitary water, before the polio vaccine was available in Korea. The family moved to Maryland not long after she was diagnosed with polio to be near better doctors. Many years later Tammy moved to Texas by herself, wheelchair bound, to attend the University of Houston. She met her future husband Joel while attending college and graduated in 1996 with a BS in Psychology.

After college the pair moved back to the northeast so Joel could attend graduate school and be close to Tammy's family. Several years ago the pair moved back to Fort Bend County to be close to a large Texas family that originated from his grandparents Robert and Louise Armstrong and Robert and Ruby Hill. Tammy's mother-in-law Janice Bowling, sister-in-law Jill Savory and husband Zach witnessed the love Tammy had for Joel for over 23 years.

Tammy and Joel have been instrumental in showcasing a need for disabled individuals to utilize the American with Disabilities Act. Tammy did not follow a path but instead made her own. Tammy left to be with God on February 24, 2015 after a long hard battle with medical complications. She will forever be in our hearts.
