Sylvia Jane Hatfield
(December 27,1953 - September 28, 2025)
A Funeral Mass for Sylvia Jane Pavlicek Hatfield, 71, of Guy, TX will be at 10 am Saturday October 18, at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, 603 Parrott Ave, Damon, TX 77430, with Father Marty Pham officiating.
Visitation will begin at 9 am at Sts.Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Damon, Texas, on Saturday, October 18, followed by Rosary at 9:30 am and Mass at 10 am. Burial will be at the church cemetery, and a lunch reception will follow in the parish hall.
Sylvia Jane Hatfield was born December 27, 1953, in Guy, TX to Henry John Pavlicek and Henrietta Frances Jurek. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on September 28, 2025, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Sugarland, TX, due to complications from COPD.
Sylvia grew up on the Pavlicek farm where, along with her 11 siblings, she picked cotton, milked cows, gathered eggs, and did various other chores associated with farm life. She graduated from Needville High School in 1972 and went to work at Frito-Lay. Sylvia also worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken, and the family loved it when she brought home chicken after work.
She was a member of Sts.Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church until she moved to Tennessee at the age of 25 with her husband Willis Hatfield. Her move to Tennessee was bittersweet. Although the family missed having her in Texas close to home, it also provided the Pavlicek siblings an opportunity to vacation to the Smoky Mountains and the beautiful state of Tennessee.
Sylvia worked for 30 years at the Hanes factory in Dayton, TN., sewing hosiery and pantyhose. When pantyhose dropped in sales due to changing fashion trends, Sylvia's job changed to sewing socks. When she came down to Texas to visit every Christmas, Sylvia would bring a suitcase filled with socks that were deemed defective and couldn't be sold. She kept the family supplied in socks for many years.
Sylvia was married to Willis until his death in 1999. Her family in Tennessee also included 2 stepsons and 2 stepdaughters and she remained with them after Willis passed away until her failing health required her to move back to Guy, TX in 2020. She lived at the family homestead with her sister Theresa Wasicek and was a member of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic church until her death.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband Willis Hatfield, her parents Henry and Henrietta Pavlicek, brothers/sisters-in-law Claude Hall, Wesley Gordon, Laura Pavlicek, Tony Wasicek, and nephew Jonathan Gordon.
Survivors include her siblings and spouses Catherine and Benny Ubanoski, Margie and Gerry Zelko, Patsy Hall, Carolyn Gordon, Henrietta and Don McClosky, Joseph and Kate Pavlicek, Mary and Keith Trichel, Henry and Linda Pavlicek, John and Jacqui Pavlicek, Theresa Wasicek, Cecilia Pavlicek as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given in her memory to Sts.Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 603 Parrot Ave. Damon, TX 77430.
