Obituary

Sue Zanne Myers Boone peacefully passed away on June 3, 2024, in her home with her family around her.

Services will be held at St. John's United Methodist Church, 400 Jackson Street, Richmond, TX 77469, on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 11 AM.  Sue Zanne will be buried between her mother and husband in Davis Greenlawn Cemetery in Rosenberg, Texas.

Born in 1937 to Ruth Sullivan Myers and Charles Edwards Myers, Sue Zanne grew up in Rosenberg and graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School in 1955. She later earned a Master of Arts in English and Philosophy from the University of Houston. In the 1960s, she taught English at UH and continued to study and practice poetry throughout her life. Sue Zanne was a seventh generation Texan, descended from early settlers Robert Rankin and Hepsibeth Luker Taylor Dowlearn. It pleased her that both of her parents, her husband and their two children were native Texans. Her ancestors fought in the American Revolutionary, the War of 1812 and the Texas Revolution. Religious pioneers, Icarians and Huguenots, are among her other notable ancestors.

Sue Zanne was very active in her community. She was a member of St John's United Methodist Church and the Sojourners Sunday School Class, Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of the Cincinnati. She was a member of the Garden Club of Richmond and the Women's Club of Rosenberg and at one point served as president of each organization. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority and a Tea Room Patron of the Junior League of Houston. She dearly loved her Bridge Club & Dinner Club friends.

Sue Zanne is preceded in death by her husband of sixty years Dan Boone of Richmond, her parents Ruth Sullivan Myers and Charles Edward Myers of Rosenberg, her grandparents Reverend Charles Martin Myers and Isa Dora Dozier Myers of Fulshear, her beloved grandmother Ella Charpentier Sullivan of Rosenberg, and her cousin David Edward Myers of Conroe. Her family was everything to her and filled her with quiet joy. Sue Zanne is survived by her son Daniel Myers Boone & wife Marjorie and her daughter Victoria Ruth Boone & husband Neal Jodiet, all of Austin. She loved her husband's cousins Pat & Don Jones, Mary Ann & Johnny Bush and all the "Smartt Set". She also had great affection & love for her caregiver, Mary Anne Martinez, who was a daily source of joy, comfort & security.

She believed that two lines from E.E. Cummings' poetry caught the essence of her family. The first read, "Be of love a little more careful than of anything"; and the second, "be unto love as rain is unto color; create me gradually." She tried to do both.
