A beloved centenarian, Selma Wehring Danklefs, of Rosenberg peacefully left this earth on April 24, 2013. "Aunt Selma" as she was known by many, and loved by all who knew her, was born September 29, 1912 on a farm in Cottonwood Community. She was the fourth of six daughters born to William F. and Emma Broecker Wehring.
Selma attended Cottonwood School, Rosenberg High School and Blinn College where she enrolled in business courses. She was of the generation that lived through the Great Depression, WWII and witnessed amazing inventions of the 20th Century, which when asked she thoughtfully replied, "paved roads, electricity, automobiles, running water and in her words 'the telephone that was much better than a TV." Selma enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, volunteering and helping others. She was an excellent bookkeeper and an accomplished seamstress. She loved the outdoors - tending to her yard, feeding the birds and caring for her cat, Mr. Pete. She was a great cook and was well known for her homemade cream puffs, as well as many other desserts.
On Dec. 7, 1935 she married her one true love, Clarence Danklefs, of Garwood, Tx. They settled in Rosenberg where they had a successful rice farming business. They enjoyed nearly 55 years of married life together until his passing in 1990. Together, they established many life long friendships, enjoyed their nieces and nephews, traveled to many exotic locations including Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Europe to mention a few.
Selma was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Rosenberg, Chapter 429 of the Order of the Eastern Star, The Fort Bend Museum Association and Docents, The Federation of Republican Women, The Rosenberg Women's Club and The Rosenberg Railroad Museum.
Selma's sweet nature and loving kindness were exceeded only by her generosity to many groups and individuals who were and still are awed by her example.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clarence, and all of her sisters, Nannie Zunker, Paula Wehring, Elsa Cumings, Olga Wehring (infant) and Adele Leissner; by her nieces Evelyn Legendre and Laverne Rand and by nephew Alfred Zunker, Jr.
She is survived by nieces Nancy Bartosh, Carol Kalinowski and husband Neal; nephew Louis Cumings III and wife Elinore. Also surviving are nieces Kathryn LeBlanc, Dorothy Freund and husband Troy; four Hausler nephews and their wives: Robert and Frances, Tim and Pat, Billy Wayne and Fran, Larry and Connie. Many great and great grand nieces and nephews, cousins and friends also survive her.
