Cat Spring

Obituary

A Memorial Service for Roy Lee Oakes III, 63, of Cat Spring, TX, is set for 2:00 PM Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors Chapel, 1201 4th Street, Rosenberg, TX 77471. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 2:00 PM Saturday at the Funeral Home Chapel, for one hour preceding the Memorial Service.

Roy "Rocky" Lee Oakes III of Cat Spring, formally of Rosenberg, was born April 14th, 1961, in East Bernard, TX, to Roy Lee Oakes, Jr and Lavern Lindy Bender Oakes.

He married his first wife, Natalie Williams in 1986 and had a daughter, Soneen, in 1990. In 2016 he married his high school sweetheart, Dottie Perry Oakes. As he passed away peacefully on the evening of December 30th, 2024, Dottie was there with him, holding his hand.

Immediately after graduating from Lamar Cons. High School in 1979, Roy began working at Baylor Company in Sugar Land. He continued to work there through several name changes and retired from National Oilwell Varco (NOV) in 2016. He came out of retirement to work at Tractor Supply (TSC) for another 7 years.

Roy was an avid farmer and loved working on his farm or playing with his many dogs, but he was never happier than when he was sitting by the lake in Somerville. He also had a passion for cars; fast cars, old cars, it didn't matter, he just enjoyed working on them or watching them go by from his front porch. Roy also had an interest in historical antiques which led he and Dottie to spend many hours touring the historical cities of Texas and searching for the perfect finds at antique stores.

Survivors include his wife, Dottie Perry Oakes, his daughter, Soneen Marie Oakes Macfarlane and her husband William Macfarlane, and his son, Conner Macfarlane.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Lee and Lavern Oakes, and grandparents, Harold and Lena Bender and Roy and Minnie Oakes.
