Obituary

Robert Allen Drabek, 63, of Needville, Texas went to his eternal home on August 1, 2025. He passed away in the ICU at CHI St. Luke's Sugarland after a sudden illness, surrounded by his immediate and work families.

Robert was born on January 26, 1962, in East Bernard, Texas to Frank and Martha (Dubec) Drabek. He was a 1981 graduate of Needville High School. He obtained his First Grade Stationary Engineers license in 2008. Robert worked for 16 years in the industrial electrical field at WA Parish Power Plant and Quanex (Gulf States Tube). He spent the last 26 years working as a stationary engineer at OakBend Medical Center and for the past 14 years at CHI St. Luke's Sugarland. Robert was loved and respected by all the staff. He was known for his smile, quick wit, kindness and willingness to go above and beyond to help anyone in need.

Robert married Kelley Kegley on June 25, 1988. Robert and Kelley were inseparable whether it was traveling, working on farm projects, attending family events, or just grocery shopping. Robert and Kelley were eternal soulmates creating a loving family. They welcomed their son Joshua in 1990, who was born 3 months prematurely, fighting for his life with Robert by his side. This created an everlasting bond between a father and his only son. Robert was able to pass on his knowledge to Joshua leaving a living legacy.

Robert spent his evenings and weekends working with Kelley "fixing things" and working in the garden but was always willing to drop everything to help someone out. He enjoyed the outdoors planting his large vegetable garden, fishing and hunting. He took great pride in his home, planting his favorite oak and cypress trees after growing them from seedlings. He was always marveled by majestic old growth trees wanting to learn their history.

Robert was happiest when he was surrounded by his family, especially his two grandchildren, usually while sharing one of Kelley's home cooked meals as eating was one of his favorite things to do.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years Kelley Drabek of Needville, son Joshua Allen Drabek and wife Kayla (Kuban) Drabek of Needville, grandchildren Cheyenne Joy Drabek and Wayne Allen Drabek, brother Frank Drabek and wife Shirley of Sweeny, sisters Alice Sopchak of Rosenberg, Annie Wood, and Dorothy Jones and husband Bobby of Katy, father-in-law Sem Edward Kegley of Beasley, and brother-in-law Zane Kegley of Richmond, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Martha Drabek, brother Victor Drabek, brother-in-law's Roy Sopchak and David Wood, and mother-in-law Geraldine Kegley.

Those honored to serve as his pallbearers are Joshua Drabek, Tim Drabek, Eddie Drabek, Travis Drabek, Willie Dubec, and Aaron Poehls. Honorary pallbearers include David Nunnally, Jimmy Gonzales, and George Cruz.

The family would like to extend their most heartfelt thanks to the dedicated doctors, nurses and staff of CHI St. Luke's Sugarland who went to extraordinary measures to save his life. We are forever grateful.
