Robert Jordan Bird was born May 17, 1936, in Parkersburg, WV, to Elton Bird and Jeanette Buckley Bird. He died August 3, 2024, in Sugar Land, TX.
Robert Bird is a 33rd Degree mason who joined in the early 1960's at Bellaire Lodge #1336. In his nearly 65 years as a Mason, "Big Bird" has served many roles including District Deputy and Past Master. Big Bird was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was a Mason or Eastern Star member at the following Lodges:
Sugar Land Lodge #1141
Morton Lodge #72
Rosenberg Lodge #881

Robert also was a member of the Arabia Shriners where he served as Goodwill Ambassador, and a member of the Scottish Rite where he was a member of the Royal Order of the Duck as well as served on a committee to select and present local JROTC Cadets with Scholarships for college.
In addition to the Shriners, Masons, and Scottish Rite "Big Bird" was also a member of the Knights Templar.
Not only did Robert have a love for the Free Masons and their teachings, but he had a passion for giving back to the kids in the community. "Big Bird" coached and managed Little League and Pony League baseball and followed his coaching by becoming an umpire.
The only thing Big Bird loved more than anything else was his family. Robert and Peggy Bird were High School sweethearts that had been married over 70 years. He was a fierce and loyal husband which showed later as a father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Clinton Bird; daughter, Rhonda Albright; son, Robert Bird; 7 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Memorial Donations may be given in his memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children online at LovetotheRescue.org or mail your check to Shriners Children's Texas, Office of Philanthropy, Suite 523, 815 Market Street/Galveston, TX 77550.
