Obituary

Rick Manuel, 73, of Rosenberg passed away Saturday May 2, 2020, surrounded by his family.
Rick was born January 3, 1947, in Olney, Texas.  He spent his childhood in North Texas and graduated from Garland High School.  He later attended Sam Houston State University where he met his wife of 52 years, Janis Reimer Manuel.
Rick and Janis moved to Rosenberg where they raised their two sons, Jerry and Jake.
Rick spent his career as Director of Vocational Services at Richmond State School, where he was instrumental in the start-up and success of Project Noel.  For over 30 years, he spent his weekends as the lead singer of Brazos, the house band at The Swinging Door.
The love Rick had for his boys was displayed in many ways; most notably on the side lines coaching them in their many sporting endeavors.  He served on the board of both Rosenberg Roughnecks and Rosenberg National Little League.  Rick continued to coach even after his boys were grown, and influenced the lives of hundreds of youth in Fort Bend County.  He continued on and eventually had the opportunity to coach his grandchildren.  According to Rick, that is when the real fun began.  In 2014 he was honored by RNLL for his 38 years of service and dedication to the league.
Rick retired in 2010 and spent his last 10 years enjoying time with his wife, Longhorn sports, watching his beloved Astros, supporting his grandchildren's many activities' and picking up a guitar anytime he had the chance.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents Doris and O.C. Manuel.
In addition to his wife Janis of Rosenberg, Rick is survived by his two sisters, Tonya Samples and Trenah Clifton of Elbert, Texas, son Jerry and his wife Amy of Richmond, son Jake and his wife Courtney of Austin, along with his five grandchildren; Tyler, Caleb, Payton, Jordan, and Harris.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center in his honor.
