Richard Shubel Robbins' Obituary

Richard was born on July 20, 1941 in Jennings, Louisiana to John Shubel and Ethel Robbins.  He passed away on May 21, 2026, after a hard-fought battle with a sudden illness. He lived life fully and faithfully for the Lord  until the very end.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Charlotte Jean Robbins, his daughter, Heidi and son-in-law Kenneth Engel, and grandchildren Summer Ellen and Forest Scott. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Woods and husband Dr. Ron Woods, his brother Mike Robbins and wife Lois Ann, and several nieces and nephews and their children.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his precious son, Scott Shubel Robbins, who was waiting at the Gates of Heaven to welcome him Home.

Richard graduated from Louisiana Tech University, where he met Charlotte, the beautiful soulmate he adored for the rest of his life. They married and moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where he worked several jobs and earned his Masters of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He began his role as a wonderful Daddy when his daughter was born. Four years later, his son was born and Richard gave his love and support to a full family. As a father, he modeled a hard-working, steady, patient, and unwavering life committed to serving the Lord and caring for others. As a husband, he was faithful and true every moment of their 61 years of marriage. He wanted to serve his family and His God , and he did so with a full heart of love.

Richard served as the Chaplain of the Richmond State School for more than 20 years. He helped raise funds for the building of the Chapel to serve the residents and offer a music program for them to sing and make a joyful noise to the Lord.

For many years, Richard enjoyed epic camping trips with his wife and his grandchildren. New England trips were his favorite destination, but many adventures were cherished in several states.

As a self-taught musician, Richard played the piano, the saxophone, and his dearly held banjo. He played with a family bluegrass group for many years, and his son-in-law's father, Floyd Engel, must be happy in Heaven to have the band back together. At the age of 82, Richard decided to learn how to play the drums, and he did so with incredible enthusiasm. He inspired his family to learn to play as well.

Throughout his life, Richard was incredibly creative in many different hobbies. He was a talented woodcarver, and he carved many beautiful nativity sets and other special pieces. He became a Master Knitter who produced hundreds of hats for charities over the years. He also knitted many gorgeous sweaters for his wife and other family members. When he retired, Richard wanted to spend more time with his wife and decided to join her efforts in making quilts. Richard became the best quilter in the family and honed his skills to perfection. He created quilts that had complex designs requiring difficult techniques, and he was always courageous with color.

Richard lived his life striving for perfection in all that he did, especially in his Christian Walk. He loved others more than himself. He also adored his little dogs, Banjo and Angel. He taught them tricks and gave them unconditional love.

He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Rosenberg for many decades. He loved teaching adult Sunday School and treasured his dear church friends. He also loved meeting with his Romeos friends for coffee on Tuesdays. Fellowship with them was a blessing. He also love the members of the quilting group from First Baptist Church Rosenberg and often shared projects with them.

We can't imagine a world without our Richard in it, but we rejoice that Heaven is filled with the Heavenly music and vibrant colors that he will offer in praising Jesus.

A private family graveside will be held at Morton Cemetery in Richmond, TX.
