Obituary

Raydell Crosswhite, a radiant soul whose presence lit up every room, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025, at the age of 74. A beloved wife, devoted mother, adoring grandmother and cherished friend, Raydell's life was a beautiful testament to unconditional love, unmatched style and fierce devotion to family.

Born February 20, 1951, in East Bernard, Texas, and raised in Rosenberg, Raydell carried her Texas roots with grace wherever life took her. She lived in Massachusetts, Germany, Katy, Richmond and Boerne, Texas—where her cherished Hill Country home on the Guadalupe River became a joyful retreat for countless family gatherings and treasured moments with friends. That home was a reflection of her: welcoming, vibrant and full of life.

Raydell was a woman of steadfast dedication and unwavering pride in her family. She is survived by her husband, Roger P. Crosswhite, and her devoted children: Julie Edlow Bowen Inza and husband Kurt, T.R. Bowen IV, stepdaughter Katie Crosswhite and stepson Cody Crosswhite and wife Corinne. Her greatest joy was being "Memaw" to her beloved grandchildren: Idalia Grace Inza and Iris and Callum Crosswhite, whom she adored beyond measure.

She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings and their families: Doris and Dyer Bowen, Charlene Lindsey, Richard and Bonnie Smith, Dixie (stepsister) and Bill Gotcher, Charles and Meggie (sister-in-law) Nichols, Mike (brother-in-law) and Terri Crosswhite, Carol "Sister" Salley (sister-in-law) and Teresa Brau (special cousin). Her legacy lives on through numerous nieces and nephews, including Chris Bowen, Ashton Lindsey, Donna Selig, Laura Smith, Dale Smith, Edlow Salley, Tara Kidd and Aaron Crosswhite and many close cousins.

Raydell was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Gertrude Wasicek, her mother, Bessie Kovasevic Wasicek, her siblings Jo Faye Cowell and John Smith, and her grandmother-in-law Grace Dyer—each of whom helped shape the strong, loving woman she became.

Ever so stylish—never spotted in a T-shirt or tennis shoes—Raydell retired from Fort Bend County and dazzled the courthouse with every step. For 30 years, she worked in the 240th District Court with Judge Thomas R. Culver, III, Lorie Crawford, and Rita Miller, who were not only coworkers, but deep, life-long friends. She had a vivacious sense of humor, a magnetic personality and a laugh so contagious it could light up the darkest day. Her cooking at home was legendary, her table always open and her heart even more so. Holidays, especially Christmastime, were her favorite—times when love and laughter overflowed – and everyone knew they belonged.

"Blood is thicker than water," she often said, a truth she lived with fierce loyalty and unwavering love. Raydell was the kind of person who made others feel seen, valued and special. To know her was to be welcomed into a family, to be called "friend" or "child" with genuine warmth. Many of her children's friends called her "Mom," a name she wore with pride.

Her beauty—inside and out—was truly unmatched. She was bold, loving, spirited and unforgettable. There are certain people you meet in life who leave a mark so deep, their presence is forever felt. Raydell was one of those rare and remarkable souls.

Her love has been the greatest gift of our lives. It lives on in every smile, every meal shared every gathering full of joy and grace. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit remains—timeless, fierce and wrapped in love.

A Service celebrating her extraordinary life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, at Grand Parkway Baptist Church, 12000 FM 1464, Richmond, Texas 77407, with a Reception immediately following.
