Richmond
Nelda Jean Ward McGee, age 66 of Richmond, Texas passed away peacefully from this earth on Friday August 14, 2020 surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Nelda was born on January 17th, 1954 in Baytown, Texas to Walter Lane Ward and Zula Belle Ward. She grew up in her hometown where she met her best friend and soul sister, Danna Glenn Love with whom she shared many adventures and cokes before moving on to UT Austin. Upon graduating college Nelda moved to Sugar Land, Texas with her husband, James Michael McGee, where they would be blessed with 2 children, Douglas Michael McGee and Catherine Anne McGee. Nelda for the better part of the kids' lives chose to be a stay at home mother to ensure her children were raised knowing love and instilling virtues to help them grow into contributing members of society. Later on Nelda would go to work for the City of Sugar Land as the executive assistant to the City Secretary. She would not only earn countless merit awards with the City but would win their 60th promotional slogan campaign. It was at the City of Sugar Land where Nelda would begin her fight with metastatic breast cancer. Though her journey was at times arduous and frightening, Nelda never showed anything but encouragement and love to her friends and family. She made it a life goal to inspire and empower others with her words and succeeded in doing so. She made it a life goal to bring a smile to all she knew, and was well known for her yearly Christmas Countdown and Purple Room Posts to succeed in doing so.
Nelda was preceded in death by both her mother and father who were no doubt waiting to greet their loving daughter with open arms.
She is survived by her son Douglas, her daughter Catherine, her brother Lane Ward, and her 'sister' Danna.
