Florence Gaskamp of Richmond, Texas and many relatives and friends.

Nelda was born in Welcome, Texas on May 8, 1931. She was number thirteen of fourteen
children. She attended school in Cottonwood, Beasley, and Rosenberg, Texas. She married her
high school sweetheart, Alvin, on January 18, 1951. In her early working years, she was a nurse
at the original Laura Eldridge Hospital. After marriage, she did return to nursing for a short time
with Dr. Stanley Thompson. All of her working years after marriage were caring, feeding, and
educating four children. She was a great cook that would share recipes but there is no
measurement for "a little of this and a little of that". She was proud of the fact that all four
children attained college degrees. She never met a baby she didn't love. She was known as a
"Professional Baby Rocker" whether it was a grandchild, great grandchild, niece, nephew, and
with permission, a baby she just met.
She was a longtime church member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Rosenberg, Texas. She
served on numerous committees, taught Sunday School, and she and her husband Alvin,
sponsored the Youth Fellowship Group. She volunteered many years as a Den Mother for Cub
Scouts, PTAs, March of Dimes, Special Olympics, and English Language Learners for
Kindergarten. She enjoyed flower gardening, collecting baby quilts, swans, and angels.
Pallbearers are Darwin Enax, Keith Beck, Brian Gutowsky, Will Gutowsky, Ron Sikes, Blake
Zeitman. Honorary Pallbearers are Alyssa Gutowsky and Colby Gutowsky.
