Mildred and her parents moved to Thompsons, Texas when she was five years old. They lived in Thompsons for several years where Mildred attended Richmond High School. They moved to Rosenberg, Texas during her senior year in high school where she graduated as Valedictorian. After graduating from high school she attended business college. Mildred began her career as a secretary at a local law firm in Rosenberg. She held numerous secretarial positions over her career including the County Clerk's office in Richmond, St. John's Methodist Church in Richmond, Jackson Elementary School in Rosenberg and Lamar Consolidated High School. Mildred retired from Lamar Consolidated High School in June of 1988.
While just starting her career, she met the love of her life, Floyd Engel in 1947. They were married on April 16, 1948. Mildred loved her career but put it in on hold after having children. From 1958 until the early 70's Mildred was a stay at home mom taking care of two children along with aging parents and in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her parents Forest and Annie Wilson, her brother Jesse Spear and her husband Floyd Charles Engel. Mildred was married to Floyd for 67 years.
She is survived by her two sons; Kenneth and his wife Heidi and grandchildren Summer and Forest of Richmond, Texas; and Curtis and his wife Kelly, and grandchildren Kelsey and Wilson of Needville, Texas.
Mildred was a loving mother and grandmother who dedicated her life to her family and her church. She taught children's Sunday School for many years at First Baptist Church of Rosenberg . She loved to cook and there were always three hot meals a day served from her kitchen. She managed to always have a hot meal ready for the family every Sunday after church even though she was always in attendance too. She always loved to share her recipes and many of them can still be found in many community cook books in the homes around Fort Bend County.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Richmond Health Care Center and Hospice Plus.
Memorials may be given in her memory to First Baptist Church, 1117 First Street, Rosenberg, TX 77471.
