Mildred Cecilia Bookmyer, 78, of Richmond and formerly of Baytown, passed away August 15, 2016. She was born January 27, 1938 in Burlington, TX and grew up in LaPorte, TX. She graduated from LaPorte High School and the University of Houston with a Master's Degree in Physical Education. She taught P.E. for 20 years divided between Deer Park High School and James Bowie Elementary School in Baytown.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, August 19, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 507 S 4th Street, Richmond, TX 77469.
She is survived by her husband, Gerry; son Mark and Angela of Houston and grandchildren Charlie and Willow; daughter Margo and Randy Pryor of Richmond and granddaughters Kaylyn, Kendall and Kacie; son Brad and Kelsey of Leander and grandson Carson; and sister Marie Hartnett of Texas City, TX.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Viola and William Wunsch, and her sister LaVerne Ayo.
Mildred and Gerry were married for over 50 years. After marrying, she lived in Baytown for 37 years, and in Richmond for 13 years. Over the years she made many friends. It is noteworthy that just six days before she died, 14 of her friends from Baytown came to visit her. Although she was frail, she looked forward to their visit and had a wonderful time.
Mildred loved and was loved by everyone in her family, especially her grandchildren. If anyone had a problem she was always ready to help find a solution. She loved attending sporting and any other events in which her children and grandchildren participated. She liked to make beautiful things (arts and crafts). As recently as two weeks before her death she was still making prayer blankets to give to cancer patients at MD Anderson and a blanket to give to her great grandniece soon to be born. She was a "Martha" dedicated to doing tasks at her church (St. Joseph in Baytown and Sacred Heart in Richmond). She especially enjoyed decorating the church for special occasions such as Christmas and Easter. She loved flowers, her yard, and decorating her home. She will be greatly missed.
For those who wish to do so memorial donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
