Funeral services for Mildred Beene Christian, 96, of Rosenberg, TX, are set for 10 AM Monday, March 10, 2014, at Second Baptist Church, Rosenberg, TX, with Rev. Paul Lewis officiating. Graveside service will be 3:00 PM Monday at Union Cemetery, near Teague, TX.



Visitation was held 5 - 7:00 PM Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors Chapel, Rosenberg, TX.



Mildred Beene Christian was born October 15, 1917, in Freestone TX, to John and Mary Edna Beene. She died March 7. 2014, in Rosenberg, TX. When she was 17, she graduated from Freestone High School and married Roy A. Christian the same day May 3, 1935.



Mildred and Roy had 3 children, LaVerne Nan, Anita Gayle, and Roy Nolan. Shortly after the birth of their children, Mildred and Roy moved to Damon and then to Rosenberg.



Mildred was the first and last employee to work for Duke & Ayres Five & Dime. After Duke & Ayres closed, she worked for Kelly Fabrics until she retired. After Roy passed away, Mildred
volunteered at the old Polly Ryon Hospital Resale Shop for 18 years.



Mildred was preceded in death by her daughter Anita, her parents and her husband Roy.



Mildred is survived by her children LaVerne and David Herrington of Smithville, Roy Nolan and Patsy Christian of Needville; her grand children Michael and Misty Herrington of Austin, Lisa and David Altmeyer of Kyle, Tammy and Mike Haverfield of Richmond, Roy Nolan Jr, and Danielle Christian of Richmond, Jennifer and Thomas Kopecky of East Bernard; and 10 great grand children, and numerous nieces and nephews.



Mildred's greatest passion was for her loving church family at the 2nd Baptist Church here in Rosenberg.
