Margie Pierce
Perry
Oct 11, 1938 — Feb 17, 2024
Rosenberg
Margie Perry, 85, of Rosenberg went to her heavenly home on Saturday, February 17, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Margie Perry was born to Howard and Alice Pierce on October 11, 1938, in San Antonio, TX. As a child she lived in various places around Texas and Oklahoma. She graduated from Harlandale High School in San Antonio in 1956 and attended Southwest Texas State (Now Texas State) in 1956 and 1957. She married Bobby Perry, the love of her life, on October 12, 1957. After marriage, they moved to Rosenberg, where she lived and worked the remainder of her life. In 1963, she graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Education.
Anyone who knew Margie knew of her great passion for the Texas Longhorns. So in 1985, she lived her dream of becoming a Texas Ex, as she received her masters degree from The University of Texas. She received a second masters in Counseling from Houston Baptist University in 1990.
Margie taught Math at Lamar High School from 1963-1980, also sponsoring a Math club and the Pep Squad. She moved to Terry High School when it opened in 1980 and taught Computer Math there until 1983. After retiring from teaching, Margie became a mental health therapist in 1993, where she loved working with children in play therapy. She felt like counseling was her calling and was able to minister to others until her passing.
Margie had a strong faith in Jesus and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Rosenberg, where she taught children's Sunday School, was the GA (Girl's in Action) Director and sang in the choir. She later became the Director of G.A. Camp in Palacios where she was able to show many young girls the love of Jesus Christ. For a short time, she attended Houston's First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and enjoyed participating in their yearly Christmas pageant.
Margie loved to stay active. She bowled in a bowling league in Rosenberg. She played softball in a women's softball league. But most of all she loved to run. She ran (and finished) multiple marathons and 10K runs but her favorite each year was the Capitol 10K in Austin, TX. She also enjoyed watching her kids, grandkids and great grandkids in any activity they participated in.
Margie and Bobby loved to travel. She and her husband were able to visit all 50 states in 50 years of marriage. She was able to see the mountains of Colorado, the Grand Canyon in Arizona, Niagara Falls in New York, the Giant Redwoods in California, the beautiful beaches of Hawaii and panned for gold in Alaska. She was able to visit The Holy Land, set foot in the Jordan River and sing "Silent Night" in the fields outside of Bethlehem. She also took a mission trip to Peru to teach VBS to Peruvian children with The Cocama Project. On her final day, she shared with her family that she lived a great life and was able to accomplish everything on her bucket list.
This loving mother and "Nana" will be dearly missed by her friends and family.
Bobby, her husband, preceded her in death on November 16, 2009. It was a loss from which she never fully healed. Also preceding her in death were her son, Bobby Perry, Jr., her granddaughter, Kimberly Cuthbert, and her sisters Christine Howard and Edith Chernosky.
Survivors include her daughters Martha Cuthbert and husband, Rick; and Dottie Oakes and husband Roy; her son, Sergio Perry; her daughter-in-law, Marian Perry; her treasured 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; and sister Jeanette Massey.
Memorials may be given in her memory to The Cocama Project, PO Box 1502, Richmond, TX 77406 OR South Texas Childrens' Home, PO Box 1210, Beeville, TX 78104-1210.
