Obituary

Margaret Weeren Otto passed away on June 10, 2020, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. The world has lost a true angel, but she is now free to be with those loved ones who have long waited for her.

Margaret Weeren Otto was born on November 15, 1934, in Cleveland, Texas. Her parents were Herbert J. Weeren and Margueriette Hansbro Weeren. She had two brothers, Herbert J. Weeren and Jack C. Weeren.

She graduated from Cleveland High School in 1953 and from Sam Houston State University in the Fall of 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She came to Needville to teach Home Economics in January of 1957 to the beginning of the 1959 school year. She married her sweetheart John Wesley Otto, Jr. on May 30, 1958. They had three children: John Wesley Otto, III, William Karl Otto (Martha), and Laura Beth Otto Smothermon (Scott). She had Kenneth Bryce Otto and Linda Otto as her brother and sister-in-law whom she loved deeply. Her sister-in-law Jimmie Lou Weeren from Nederland was always dear to her heart.

She leaves behind her children, two sister-in-laws, and her three grandchildren: John Wesley Otto, IV (Jill), Stephanie Jean Smothermon, and Samantha Margaret Smothermon, and two great grandchildren: Evan Hunter Otto and Jane Aster Demary.

She was preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Margueriette Weeren, her brothers Herbert Weeren, Jack C. Weeren, her brother-in-law Kenneth Bryce Otto, and her beloved husband John Wesley Otto, Jr.

Margaret was a long-standing member of Needville United Methodist Church and served in many areas of ministry. She took part in the United Methodist Women and held many positions in this group throughout her life.

Mostly, Margaret was kind. She was kind to everyone and was a Godly example to all who knew her. She was a lover of nature and the beauty that God created. She saw beauty and wonder in all things and has passed that gift to her children. Margaret was a lover of peace and a devoted believer in the power and comfort of prayer. She is now resting in the peace, comfort, and love of her Heavenly Father.
