Emma Lucille (Lucy) Loyd Holmes passed away peacefully at her home on May 19, 2026. She was born on February 7, 1933, in Folsom, Louisiana, to Kelton and Almeta Loyd. On July 5, 1958, she married Paul Douglas Holmes, and they welcomed one son, David Lloyd Holmes, on October 13, 1959. She worked in the cotton gin for many years. Lucy was deeply involved in her church, where she sang in the choir, taught children's Sunday School, and was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Rosenberg, Texas.

Lucy enjoyed gardening and tending to her plants and being a homemaker. She also enjoyed cooking and was known to have a pot of beans on the stove and was famous for her Mexican casserole dish. Her favorite thing to do was spend time with her grandsons who called her "Granny".

Emma Lucille was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Paul Douglas Holmes as well as his parents Cleo and Paul Holmes and her parents Kelton and Almeta Loyd. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Loyd as well as by brothers-in law J.E. Holmes, Glen Holmes, Hollis Holmes and Myron Bunch.

She is survived by her son, David Holmes, and his wife, Marcia; their sons, Hunter Holmes and his wife, Emilee, and Paul David Holmes and his wife, Chloe; her brother, Sherwood Loyd, and his wife, Lee, of Folsom, Louisiana; her brother-in-law, Wallace Holmes, and his wife, Helen; sisters-in-law Pauline Bunch, Linda May and her husband, Paul, Edna Holmes, Rita Holmes, and Geraldine Holmes; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

The family is especially grateful for the loving care given by Esmeralda and Rosie.

Pallbearers include grandsons Hunter and Paul Holmes as well as Jerry Cobb, C.D. Holmes, Barry Bunch and Sam Bunch.

A Graveside Service will be held at the Longstreet Memorial Cemetery in Longstreet, Louisiana, on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 1:00 pm, officiated by Pastor Shawn Thrapp.
