Funeral services for Lavern Lindy Bender Oakes, 78, of Cat Spring, TX, are set for 11 AM Saturday, September 9, 2017, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1208 5th Street, Rosenberg, TX 77471. Burial will follow in Rosenberg City Cemetery.

Lavern was born July 29, 1939, in Needville, TX, to Harold Bender and Lena Neumann Bender. She died September 5, 2017, in Cat Spring, TX. She was a drum major at Needville High School and graduated in 1957. In 1958, Lavern enrolled in Rosenberg Business College. She worked for 3 1/2 years at Fort Bend Federal Savings and Loan in Rosenberg, TX. Lavern has been a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rosenberg, TX, since 1958, also a member of Richmond American Legion Auxiliary Unit 567, and a member of the Rosenberg Chapter Order of the Eastern Star Unit 429.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Roy Lee Oakes; parents, Harold and Lena Bender; in-laws, Roy and Minnie Oakes; and brother-in-law, Arlis J. Preiss. Survivors include her son, Roy Lee Oakes III and wife, Dottie; grand daughter, Soneen Oakes and family, William Macfarlane and his son, Conner; sister, Roma Dell Bender Preiss; nieces and nephews, Don and Tamera Barnett, Richard and Rhonda Barnett, and Kevin Preiss; and numerous other relatives. Additionally survived by many special friends plus Dolores Gerken, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Golden Girls, graduates, neighbors, fuzzy friends, Pastor Claude and Cyndi, and Brother Johnson and Christine.

Memorials may be given in her memory to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1208 5th St/Rosenberg, TX 77471.
