It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Jerry C. Michalik, age 70, on May 20, 2014. He was born October 30, 1943, in Smithville, Texas and fulfilled a wonderful life as husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He relished holidays and all other times with his family and daily life with wife Betty, the love of his life, best friend, and companion of 53 years. He enjoyed fishing but especially loved cooking and baking for his family as well as building things for his family to enjoy. He never met a stranger, and he always had a story to tell. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His wish would be that we honor his memory by celebrating life every single day.
Jerry will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Betty Michalik; daughters Brenda Michalik, Bonnie Menard and husband Jeff; son John Michalik and wife Jennifer; grandchildren Brock Meyer and wife Jessica, Brittany Piña and husband Kevin, Brooke Meyer, Jordi Menard, Jed Menard, Lee Michalik, and Cody Michalik; great-grandchildren Annabelle Piña and Elise Meyer; sisters Janice Hickman and Joyce Michalik; brothers Jimmy Michalik and Joe Michalik; and numerous other loved family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Anna Lee and Clinton Michalik, and sisters Nita Lee and Jean Michalik.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 24th, at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m., both to be held in the Chapel at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 507 S. 4th St., Richmond, Texas 77469.
For those wishing, the family's request is that you give the gift of life by becoming a blood/organ donor or that a donation be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, MD Anderson Cancer Center, or Project Marshall Solomon (in honor of his first great-grandchild), which supports families with the early loss of a child -- all causes close to Jerry's heart.
