Obituary

Jean Crosby (Carr), 87, passed peacefully on Tuesday, July 8, 2014. She was born in Ozark, Missouri and lived most of her young life in Knob Noster, Missouri. Her loving parents, Mary Elizabeth and Arthur Clell Adams were both born in Ozark, Missouri.

Jean eventually made Texas her home for 55+ years. While flying from Louisiana to Houston, Jean struck up a conversation with Wilma Crosby McCutchen and proceeded to eat all of Wilma's snacks on the flight. Wilma liked Jean immediately and decided to introduce her to her brother, Buster. Three and a half months later on July 31, 1949, they were married. And they were married one month short of 48 years. For the majority of their marriage, they called Rosenberg their home. They were self-employed for 33 of those years. Their first business was Crosby Body Works which they owned for 16 years. Jean and Buster left the Rosenberg area for 7+ years to live and work in Katy, Beaumont and Georgia only to return to Rosenberg in 1973 to begin their 2nd business, Professional Auto Appraisal Service which they owned for 17 years until Buster's declining health dictated they close their business. Jean cared for Buster, who suffered with Alzheimer's, until his death in 1997.

Jean returned to her hometown 7 years later to attend her Knob Noster High School Class Reunion. There she became reacquainted with a man she had dated back in high school, Bob Carr. He had lost his wife, June, to Alzheimer's as well. They were married in 2003. They have been married and lived in Knob Noster, Missouri for the past 11 years. Due to Bob's failing health, Jean and Bob were faced with the difficult decision that required Bob to move into a VA Nursing Home in Missouri and Jean to return home to Texas to be close to her children. After returning to Texas in November, 2013, Jean was diagnosed in January, 2014, with Stage IV Lung Cancer. From diagnosis to her death, it was 6 months and 5 days. Her doctor at M D Anderson advised her to celebrate life – and she took her at her word. Her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, additional family members and friends have surrounded her with love and laughter. And until 5 days before her death, she was serving others through her words of encouragement, love, prayer, laughter and hugs. Jean had a wit, charm and sense of humor that people were drawn to.

Jean and her children would like to thank her loving hospice nurse, her Critical Care Nurses and the loving staff and residents at Harborview Care Center of Southshore for their love, compassion, laughter and joy they brought to her life these past days and months. What you do truly matters.

Jean is survived by her husband, B. E. "Bob" Carr, Knob Noster, Missouri; her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Tammie Crosby, Needville, Texas; her daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Howard Laverell, Nassau Bay, Texas; her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Wendell Smith, Houston, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Philip Crosby, Lauren Crosby Culleton, John Crosby, Samuel Crosby, Megan Crosby, Ryan Laverell, Jordan Laverell, Kathryne Laverell Kalata, Meredith Smith and Mason Smith; 6 1/2 Great-grandchildren, Landon Crosby, Wyatt Crosby, Hudson Laverell, Othniel Laverell, Valora Laverell and Victor Kalata and Baby Kalata (due on Jean's birthday); and loving nieces and nephews and friends.
