Obituary

James Andrew Valentine, Sr., better known as Jim, of Damon, TX, went to be with the Lord on April 1, 2020, at the age of 72. Jim was born on September 3, 1947, in Kings Mine, OH, to Andy and Doris Hardy Valentine. Jim grew up in Lore City, OH, and was a 1965 graduate of Meadowbrook High School in Byesville, OH. He enlisted in the Army in 1965 and served until January 1970. Jim was stationed at several different locations throughout his service, but it was when he was sent to Fort Hood that he met the love of his life Nancy Fishbeck. The two were wed June 6, 1970. They spent 49 beautiful years together and were blessed with 4 children and 5 grandchildren. Jim retired from Conoco Phillips in Sweeny in 2004 after 38 years of dedicated service. In his retirement, Jim enjoyed spending time outdoors, taking care of the family farm, feeding the cows, watching the new calves run and play, feeding the fish in the pond, watching tv, particularly sports and westerns, playing on his iPad, and barbecuing. He especially loved fishing with his sons and grandchildren and attending all the school activities of his grandchildren. Above all else, Jim wanted to spend every moment he could with his family. He was a very proud husband, father, and PawPaw.

He is survived by his loving wife Nancy of Damon, son Jamie of Damon, son Jason and wife Carrie of Wimberley, son Josh of Palacios, daughter Janessa of Damon, and grandchildren James, Anna, Will, Claire, and Josie. He is also survived by his sister Jeanie Mason and husband Larry of Old Washington, OH, and his brother Dan Valentine and wife Becky of Cambridge, OH, along with many other beloved relatives. Jim is preceded in death by his parents Andy and Doris, his in-laws Ludwig and Delores Fishbeck, and his brother Mark Valentine.

The Valentine family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Houston Methodist Hospital in Sugar Land for trying so hard to keep Jim with us, Nurse Angel for providing a shoulder to cry on, and Chaplain T Lun for his words of comfort and prayers.

Jim's precious grandchildren wanted to share a few words about their PawPaw: James notes how PawPaw always had something to add to every conversation, and you'd always want to hear what he had to say. Anna will never forget PawPaw's contagious smile, how he was always so happy and how he loved cracking jokes. Will wants everyone to know that PawPaw was his absolute best friend and he never did anything without him. Claire will always remember how thoughtful PawPaw was...he always made sure he had plenty of gum, tic tacs, and satsumas to share with them. Josie will miss her birthday buddy...she loved sharing a birthday with her PawPaw and having dual birthday cakes. Jim was greatly loved by all and there will forever be a void in the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

The Valentine family greatly appreciates everyone's thoughts and prayers, but due to the current health crisis, the family has decided not to have any services at this time. There will be a Celebration of Jim's Life when it is safe to do so.

Memorials may be given in Jim's memory to First English Lutheran Church at 3615 CR 264K, PO Box 129, Damon, TX, 77430 .
