James Leon Griffin, 82, of Needville, Texas, passed away on November 2, 2026, in Sugar Land, Texas. He was born on September 15, 1944, to Jack and Belvia Griffin. James graduated from Pearland High School in 1962. In May of 1971, he married the love of his life, Dorothy. Together, they shared 55 years of marriage and raised two children, Jennifer and Jamie, who blessed them with three grandchildren.
Known by most of his friends as “Griff,” James retired from AT&T after 33 years of dedicated service. Never one to sit still for long, he began a second career with the City of Needville just a year or two after retirement.
James was a true jack-of-all-trades who could fix just about anything. Whether it was lending a helping hand, figuring out how to repair something, or helping someone in need, he was always willing to lend his time and talents to others. He found joy in the simple things in life and especially loved spending time with his family and friends at the river house, where many special memories were made.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and woodworking. He also had a special kindness for animals and a soft spot in his heart for his beloved pup, Lucy, and his pet bull, Wooly Bully.
Above all, James cherished his family and friends. He will be remembered for his helpful nature, his ability to fix just about anything, his love of the outdoors, and the many memories shared with those fortunate enough to know him.
James is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Dorothy Kovar Griffin; daughter Jennifer Selvidge and husband Jacky; son Jamie Griffin and wife Mindi; grandsons Wyatt Griffin and Dylan Selvidge; granddaughter Kenzi Griffin; brother Gerald Griffin and wife Barbara; sister Karen Bryce and husband Donnie; along with many other relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
James will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
