James Freund, 85, passed away Monday, October 10, 2016. He was born November 17, 1930, in Needville, TX, to Cecil and Minnie Moore Freund.


James Freund met the love of his life of 64 years, Lucille Freund, while he was stationed in San Diego, CA, with the United States Marine Corps. When he got home to Needville, he mailed her an engagement ring and asked her to move to Needville with him. She said "yes", and got on the train to Needville.



He is survived by his loving wife; sons, Steve Freund and wife, Debbie, Paul Freund and wife, Linda, John Freund and wife, Tammi, and Tom Freund and wife, Erin; grandchildren, Dakota Freund, Jamie Carr, Roxanne Underwood, Jonathan Watson, Kirsten Freund, Nicole Wolfe, Ryan Freund, Cadell Freund, and Dionne Freund; 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers, Cecil Howard Freund and Homer Freund.



James Freund was a lifelong member of Needville United Methodist Church and served on numerous committees there, especially enjoying the annual fish fry with his family. He worked for 30 years at the Phillips refinery in Old Ocean and was a lifelong farmer and rancher, especially enjoying raising and feeding his catfish. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors with family and friends.



Visitation will be held at the Garmany & Carden Needville Chapel, 3103 School St, Needville, TX 77461, Thursday, October 13, 2016, from 6-8 PM.



Services will be held at 10 AM, Friday, October 14, 2015, at Needville United Methodist Church, 8602 Church St, Needville, TX 77461, with interment following at the Needville United Methodist Cemetery.



Donations may be made in Mr. Freund's memory to the Needville United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 26, Needville, TX 77461.
