Hugo Raymond (Butch) Stoeltje, 87, of Sugar Land, Texas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on October 23, 2026, following a battle with leukemia. He was born on October 21, 1939, in Shiner, Texas, to Hugo and Alice Malek Stoeltje.
Butch graduated from the University of Houston and proudly served as a member of the Air Force Reserve. He spent much of his career working as a salesman in the metal and steel industry, first with Trident and later with Best Stainless, where he retired. Butch enjoyed traveling, including his monthly trips to Hallettsville, Texas, to pick up his favorite kolaches. An avid sports fan, he loved cheering on the UH Cougars and Houston sports teams. He could also often be found watching Judge Judy or the History Channel, particularly World War II documentaries.
A man of strong Catholic faith, Butch was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 7445 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Richmond, Texas. He especially enjoyed serving donuts after Sunday Mass and spending time with family. Some of his favorite occasions included church bazaars, fish fries, and family reunions.
Butch is survived by his wife of 34 years, Linda Garcia Stoeltje; his daughter, Gretchen Stoeltje (wife Nicole Corley); and his stepchildren, son Christopher Pappas (wife Annette), daughter Shelley Pappas, and daughter Neely Sebek (husband David). He also leaves behind six grandchildren: Chandler, Cameron, and Taylor Sebek, and Raymond, Nicholas, and Noel Pappas; his sister-in-law, Virginia Stoeltje; and a niece and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Allen Stoeltje.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 507 S. 4th Street, Richmond, Texas 77469. The Rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m., prior to Mass.
