She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Andrews and Maude Sturdivant Andrews and her brother, Clarence Andrews of Bellville, Texas.

She is survived by her daughter Virginia (Kelley) Starbuck Lloyd, her son Richard W. Starbuck, (his wife, Melanie Starbuck). She was loved by her grandchildren, Andrew and Stephen Lloyd, who helped care for her the past 6 years in her home and in her daughter's home in Katy. She was adored by Brian and Michael Starbuck and Krystal Starbuck Rios (husband, Matt). She is blessed with 3 great grandchildren.

Hazel passed away Tuesday afternoon in her home she shared with her daughter Virginia and grandson Stephen, in Katy. She has been blessed with support from her family both near and far - Richard and Melanie Starbuck, Gary and Vicki Cofer, and Treleta Walker, to name a few. She received frequent cards and letters from her beloved Sunday school class, and sweet Facebook posts.

Born August 22, 1919, in Independence, Texas to farmers Clarence and Maude Sturdivant Andrews. She picked cotton, fed chickens and livestock and rode to school in a "buckboard" wagon. She attended a one room school in the Washington County area and later returned to teach in that same school house. Graduate of Bellville High School, Blinn College and Baylor University. She received her BA, in English August 22, 1945, and would have completed her MA in 1969 but sacrificed her degree to raise her stepchildren.

She taught High School English for the majority of her 39 year career. She also taught several years in Katy at the elementary level, where she met her dear friend Jenny Lu Cofer who passed away September 22, 1949. Later, she married, Rev. EW (Wirt) Cofer at 1st Baptist Church, Bellville, TX. She and Wirt later relocated to Rosenberg, TX, where he was prison chaplain in Sugarland and founder of 2nd Baptist Church in Rosenberg. She and Wirt built the home she resided in from 1954-2015 on 1400 Lawrence Street. Wirt passed away in 1964 at Polly Ryon Hospital.

January 31, 1969, Hazel married Virgil K. Starbuck, and they were married for 42 years. She was blessed with 2 stepchildren who arrived for a summer visit on May 25, 1969 at ages 7 and 4. She raised them with her husband Virgil and support from Peggy Houser McCaskill, grandmother Lathenia Terry and her church family. She taught Sunday school at Calvary Baptist Church for 28 years, to a very special group of dynamic women. One very special dynamo must be mentioned, Betty Henry; you called her every day! Her latter years were filled with sewing, cooking, canning, gardening, taking care of her beloved cats, her husband Virgil and supporting her favorite charities, too many to list. The past two years were spent with the support of devoted caregivers from Visiting Angels, Silverado, Always Best Care, and a private caregiver. She had the loving care of her doctors and therapy staff of Houston Methodist West, 1st Texas Home Health nurses and therapists. She would never forget your name if you brought her chocolate!

Hazel you have been an amazing, phenomenal person on this journey of life. I will forever miss your "what day is it, who is coming today, do you work today and where's Rudy(kitty) " ; " not to mention, I love you and thank you for taking care of me, stated each and every day." Your loving daughter, Virginia.
