Harold Robert Loftin, Sr., went home to be with his Lord on January 2, 2018, when he passed away peacefully in his sleep. Harold was born in Delta County, Texas, on June 2, 1931, and was the sixth son born to Joe and Euna Loftin of Cooper, Texas. Harold married Norma Lee Bridges on November 21, 1958, and together they had two sons, Harold ("Bobby") and Joe, and a daughter Ruth. Norma preceded Harold in death on November 13, 1994. On March 21, 1998, Harold married Karen Ferguson of Richmond, Texas, and remained married to her until he passed away. He cared deeply for his stepson, John Henry Ferguson, just as he did for his own children. He was proud of his children and his stepson and they were just as proud of him. Harold is remembered as a devoted father and husband and a man who for the last 29 years very much enjoyed his role as "Grandpa."
Harold enlisted in the United States Air Force when he was seventeen years old and served in both the Air Force and the U.S. Coast Guard. After he left military service he found his true calling as a Master Electrician. He enjoyed his work and took great pride in the quality of his craftsmanship. Harold was a man of his word – if he told someone he would do something, he could be counted on to keep his promise. But, most people knew him as a tender-hearted man that would go out of his way to help anyone he saw in need if he could.
Harold loved fishing and playing dominoes with his children, grandchildren and daughter-in-law. He was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed John Grisham novels as well as his Bible. Toward the last decades of his life he enjoyed long walks in Brazos Bend State Park and developed a passion for playing online chess, which he would often play for up to twelve hours a day. And while he would play chess, he would indulge in another favorite pastime – listening to the country music of his generation. He was particularly fond of the music of Hank Williams and would often strum his air guitar as he would sing along with his favorite songs – to the amused dismay of those around him.
Harold was a devout follower of Jesus Christ. He joined First Baptist Church of Rosenberg by baptism on January 30, 2005. He remained an active member until the day of his death. He spoke often of the mercy "of the good Lord" and found peace and comfort in His grace. In the arms of his Lord he has found rest and the family members left behind look forward to the day they are reunited with him before the Throne of Grace.
Harold was predeceased in death by his parents, four of his brothers, his first wife Norma Lee Bridges Loftin, his son Joe Wheeler Loftin, and his grandson Christopher Adam Loftin. He is survived by his wife Karen Loftin, son Harold R. Loftin, Jr., and daughter-in-law Melanie Loftin, daughter Ruth Ann Loftin Odom, stepson John Henry Ferguson, grandchildren Amanda Sparkman, Johnathon Loftin, Benjamin Loftin, Rylie Ferguson, Westin Ferguson, his brother Royce Loftin, sisters Marcile Dunn and Norma Burch, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be dearly missed.
