Fairchilds

Obituary

Georgie Ann Kucera Koehne, a longtime resident of Fairchilds, peacefully met her Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 19, 2026.

Georgie—who was also affectionately known as Georgia—was born on June 2, 1933, in Needville, Texas, to the late Edward "Ed" Kucera and Veronika "Verna" Elles. Growing up as an only child during the Great Depression, her childhood was defined by hard work and deep family bonds. By the age of five, she was already in the fields helping her father cut cotton stalks, while also assisting her mother with household chores.

Those lean early years taught Georgie never to take anything for granted. She gained a wealth of practical knowledge from her parents, learning how to grow crops, tend gardens, raise animals, build things, and more. She also became an exceptional seamstress and lovingly made many of her own and her children's school clothes. She enjoyed baking and made some wonderful kolaches for the family to enjoy. Georgie often reflected on her childhood by saying that although they did not have a lot of money, people were happier back then because families spent their Sundays laughing, talking, and gathering together.

On November 3, 1951, Georgie married Fritz Koehne Jr. Together, they welcomed five children: Daniel, Gladys, Eileen, Jeanette, and Lorraine. After moving more than ten times, they finally settled permanently in Fairchilds in 1969.

Georgie was a dedicated homemaker. While she briefly worked at the Richmond State School, she chose to fully dedicate herself to her home and three youngest daughters after the heartbreaking, tragic loss of her two oldest children in 1971.

Her compassionate heart knew no bounds. She volunteered for the March of Dimes, but her true calling was ministering directly to those around her. Over the years, she selflessly cared for her husband, aunts, an uncle, neighbors, friends, and her own parents during times of illness, always ensuring they had a warm, home-cooked meal or any need met. She also opened her heart and home to several foster children. To help support her family, Georgie babysat many neighborhood children, many of whom grew up viewing her as their own adopted grandparent or lifelong friend.

Georgie had a deep passion for the outdoors. She loved gardening, tending to her flower beds, and raising chickens for farm-fresh eggs. She and Fritz planted fruit trees and large gardens that sustained the family, and she spent countless hours canning their harvest. When able, the family would be taken to local dances enjoying waltzes, two-steps and polkas. In her later years, as life slowed down, she found immense joy in her dogs, with the latest being Missy and Sammy, and her pet cat MJ. She loved staying connected through phone calls with family and friends. Even as age kept her indoors more, she kept her mind sharp with word searches, read her Bible, and spent hours at her dining room table watching the birds visit her feeders.

Georgie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her two children, Daniel and Gladys; her parents; and several aunts, uncles, and other family and friends.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by her three daughters: Eileen Lolley and her husband Cleve of Gary, TX; Jeanette Newman and her husband Vincent of Fairchilds; and Lorraine

Niemeyer and her husband Bruce of Fairchilds. She is also survived by three granddaughters: Cheryl Bradley and her husband Kelley of La Porte; Amanda Parker and her husband Jim of Plano; and Lynnette Parmer and her husband Doug of Friendswood; as well as six cherished great-grandchildren: Tessa Bradley, Sean and Zachary Parker, and Melissa, Abigail, and Kaylee Parmer.
