Funeral services for Frank M. Gorka, Jr., 78, of Needville, TX, are set for 10 AM Thursday, October 2, 2014, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 9018 Church Street, Needville, TX 77461, with Rev. Tom Schwartz officiating. Burial will follow in Guy Public Cemetery, Guy, TX.
Visitation will be 5 - 7:00 PM Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors Chapel, 3103 School Street, Needville, TX 77461.
Pallbearers will be Donny Gorka, Aaron Kalinowski, Murray Teykl, Cole Gorka, Cody Kalinowski, Walker Kalinowski & Monty Teykl.
Frank was born August 11, 1936, in Richmond, TX, to Frank M. Gorka, Sr. and Catherine Malinowski Gorka. He died September 27, 2014, in Needville, TX. On January 12, 1958, he married Irma Straznicky. He worked at Texas Instruments for 28 years before retiring. He was a Rancher, and he enjoyed watching his cows from the porch. Frank loved the beach and family vacations. He enjoyed his coffee shop buddies. Football was an important part of his life - he played football and watched football. He was a true Blue Jay, and he especially loved watching his grandchildren play sports. Being with family was very important to Frank. He especially loved family barbeques. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by two brothers, Julius Gorka and wife Dorothy, and Ed Gorka; sister-in-law, Vernon Gorka; two brothers-in-law, George Stavinoha and Ed Blazek.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Irma Gorka, of Needville, TX; three children, Donny Gorka, Connie Kalinowski and husband, Aaron, and Susan Teykl and husband, Murray, all of Needville, TX; 6 grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Bopo", Kaylee Gorka, Cole Gorka, Cody Kalinowski, Walker Kalinowski, Jodi Kalinowski, and Monty Teykl; brother, Jim Gorka, of Needville, TX; sister, Elizabeth Stavinoha, of Needville, TX; sisters-in-law, Angeline Gorka of Needville, TX, and Charlotte Blazek of Wharton, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Memorials may be given in his memory to American Heart Association, P.O. Box 841125, Dallas, TX 75284-1125 or to Immanuel United Church of Christ, 9018 Church Street, Needville, TX 77461.
