Evelyn "Ann" Swanson Kanak, 88, of Needville, Texas passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017 from complications of pneumonia. She was comforted by being in the arms of her daughter and surrounded by her beloved family.
Ann was preceded in death by her late father, Clarence R. Swanson and mother, Myrtle McDonald Swanson, both of El Campo, Texas, her husband, Marvin R. Kanak of Needville, Texas, and her sister, Gloria Swanson Ross of Brinkmeal, Va.
Ann is survived by her son, Thomas Kanak of Needville; daughter, Gail Kanak Fults and her husband, Jerry Fults; grandson, Jerry Shane Fults and partner, Lori Allison of Austin, Texas; son David Kanak of Needville, Texas; grandson, Gregory Kanak and wife, Lacy Kanak of Richmond, Texas; granddaughter, Jennifer K. Smith and husband, Stephen Smith; grandsons, Gage and Brandon Smith of Spring, Texas.
Ann was born in El Campo, Texas, May 12, 1929 where she and her older sister, Gloria were raised; attended A and I University, married and raised two sons and a daughter, living in Newgulf, Texas for many years. Ann and Marvin owned and operated, with partners, a grocery store in Newgulf, Texas.
In 1966, the family moved to Needville and Marvin set up a law business. They built their beautiful home, where roots were established for their lifetimes. She again went back to work as a Department Manager for Sears.
After retiring, Marvin and Ann lived a charmed life, full of love and laughter with so many friends.
They loved entertaining at home, travelling, playing tennis, fishing, sailing and snow skiing and RV-ing all over the US, Canada & Alaska. She loved playing games on "Nintendo" and the computer with her grandsons (Pacman). But above all else, she loved her family and was the perfect wife, mother, grandmother who was adored by all.
When Ann was in hospice, a visiting minister asked her if she knew God. Ann replied, "I know God and he knows me."
She was so special – never complained – always had a smile on her face – only offered love and support, totally given to others first.
Her last words to her mom were, "I love you". Ann told her, "No, but I love you "more."
She would blow a kiss and show the OK sign! She is now in heaven with The Lord and reunited with her long-awaited husband, family and friends saying, "what took you so long? Now we can start the party; she is home and our group is complete. Let the good times roll and the music begin."
