Evelyn Merritt Bell's Obituary
Funeral services for Evelyn Bell are set for 10 AM Friday, December 15, 2017, at First Baptist Church, 1117 First Street, Rosenberg, TX 77471. Burial will follow at Davis-Greenlawn Cemetery, Rosenberg, TX.
Visitation will be 5 - 7 PM Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors Chapel, 1201 Fourth Street, Rosenberg, TX 77471.
Evelyn Merritt Bell was born on November 3, 1924, in Evergreen, Louisiana, to Rena Lunday Merritt and Sidney G. Merritt. She passed away on December 9, 2017.
She graduated from Business school after high school and worked for several years as a secretary for Halliburton. She married Alvis Bell on May 25, 1951, and celebrated 66 years of marriage this past May. She had three children; Carolyn, Steve, and Paul.
Evelyn served with her husband for over 45 years as he pastored five churches; First Baptist Church of Turnersville, First Baptist Church of Mullen, First Baptist Church of Bellville, Quail Valley Baptist Church, and First Baptist Church of Needville. She had a heart for missions and often led the WMU and other ladies' Bible studies in the churches where they served.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Carolyn Bell. She is survived by her husband, Alvis Bell of Needville, TX; 2 sons, Steve and his wife Donna of Magnolia, TX, and Paul and his wife Sherri of Terrell, TX; 1 brother Ray Merritt of Keithville, LA; brother-in-law Robert Bell and his wife Jean of Fredericksburg, TX; 2 sisters-in-law, Margaret Bell and Janita Kelley of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren Bethany Bell, Melissa Campbell and husband Ryan, Jered Bell and wife Katie, and Cody Bell; great-grandchildren Hallie and Jesse Bell; and nieces, nephews, and other friends whom she loved like family.
Memorials may be given in her memory to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, in care of First Baptist Church of Rosenberg, 1117 First Street, Rosenberg, TX 77471.
