Obituary

Monday, December 8th, 2025, Elinore Pascoe Cumings had the Angel of Death visit her to collect her soul to go and be with Jesus.

Elinore was born August 23, 1941, in Glendale, CA. to Richard Hedley and Lois Pascoe. Lois' family, the Connovers, were some of the first immigrants to America and fought in the American Revolution, thus were members of DAR.

Elinore met Louis W. Cumings III while a student at TCU. Both were involved with others and due to a mix up with a church group outing to see Ben Hur in Dallas, the two ended up on a double date. Lou asked Ellie if she liked clams on return and she replied yes to Howard Johnson's for an all you can eat meal. Upon returning to campus, the music professor was playing on the chapel organ an old favorite hymn so they sat down to listen and were humming and singing along. Then it came time for Ellie to be back at her dorm. Lou took her hand to help her up which was the first contact. He said God put words in his mouth and he blurted out "I'm going to marry you!" And she said, "No way, you're crazy!" A year and a half later, they were engaged. They wed on June 25, 1961, and as Reverend Lou said, she was an ideal preacher's wife for 64 years, 6 months, and 23 days, until the Angel of Death visited her and took her soul to reside with God.

Ellie was a retired social worker for the mental health department. She graduated from Cal State University, Los Angeles and received a Master's Degree from the University of Houston.

Ellie was a mother to and survived by 4 children: Christina Jordan (husband Robert), Jonathan Craig Cumings, Calisa Castillo (husband Bill), and Louis Clinton Cumings (wife Lynette). She is also survived by many grandchildren and great children.

Her compassion, love, and devotion to some 160 charities will be sorely missed. Ellie and Lou established 4 college endowment funds for nursing programs, Alice Loyce in Tennessee, St. Joseph Catholic, an Indian Reservation in North Dakota, Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, and Wharton Junior College.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to any of the four colleges mentioned above.

Ellie always said, giving never empties your heart!

God bless you all!
