Doris Darling (Kubicek) Floyd of Rosenberg, Texas, was born in Snook, Texas, on December 2, 1934, to Otilda Helen (Jakubik) and Tony Kubicek. Doris passed from this life in Katy, Texas, and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 26, 2021.
Doris graduated from Snook High School in 1953. She attended business classes at McKenzie Baldwin Business College and the University of Houston to become a secretary, but her "career" was her family. Doris met the love of her life, Virgil Omah Floyd of Benton, Arkansas, at Houston's First Baptist Church. They fell hard for each other, and they fell quickly, as they were engaged within a few short weeks. The two were soon married in the chapel of the church where they first met on July 26, 1958. Prior to and shortly after marriage, Doris worked for a variety of companies, including New York Life, Thiokol Corporation, the University of Arkansas, and Texas Instruments. Doris and Virgil spent their first years together in Alabama and Tennessee. As their family grew, they returned to Texas, residing in various cities and towns, and even ventured abroad for a couple of years to Campinas, Brazil. They finally settled in Rosenberg in 1980. Doris was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She stayed home to raise her children when they were young, and as they grew older, she returned to part-time employment as an administrative secretary with Texas Instruments from 1979-1996. Doris was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Rosenberg, where she and Virgil actively participated and faithfully served for many years. She also served in volunteer capacities for the non-profit charity, Mended Hearts, and for the Texas Instruments Retirees Club. In her free time, Doris enjoyed sewing, gardening, and spoiling her grandchildren with freshly baked cookies.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Tony and Otilda Kubicek, and her faithful and loving husband of almost 51 years, Virgil Floyd.
She is survived by her brother Raymond Tony Kubicek of Caldwell, Texas; two sons: Michael Keith Floyd and wife, Alicia Patricia (Lopez Guerra) Floyd of Austin, Texas, and Carlton Dean Floyd of Rosenberg, Texas; one daughter: Kimberly Gail (Floyd) Gilcrease and husband, Christopher Lee Gilcrease of Katy, Texas; and five grandchildren: Alyssa Floyd of Austin, Texas, Danielle (Floyd) Nieh of Houston, Texas, and Kaeli, Kyrsten, and Cameron Gilcrease of Katy, Texas. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
