The man, the myth, the legend. Don Holden, known to many as "The Legend", passed away at 85 years old on July 17, 2021. He was born December 28, 1935. in San Angelo, TX, to Marshall Mac Holden and Margaret Louise Akin Holden.

Don loved fried rabbit and deer meat smothered in homemade gravy (it didn't get any better than his), honey buns, hunting arrowheads, deer hunting, beautiful women, smoking cigarettes and drinking scotch, not necessarily in that order. He hated his cell phone, "the damn thing never worked like it's supposed to" (his words). Don never liked being hugged by men, we never found out what would happen if you did but there were a few stories floating around that would keep a man from trying!

Don was a master craftsman capable of fixing or building just about anything. He was strong, tough, and a scrappy man that didn't take crap from anyone. He had many accomplishments in life…Don served as a Petty officer second class in the US Navy on the USS Princeton 1957-58. He owned and operated Holden Roofing Company and traveled the world hunting.

Don has been known as a Low Fence Whitetail Hunting Legend for years and he accomplished what most would consider unthinkable goals in the deer hunting industry. Don's passion was unmatched when it came to hunting Free Range/ Low Fence 200" monster bucks! He lived and loved Deer Hunting and shared his passion with everyone around him!

If you ever had the chance to meet and talk with Don, you would know that the start and finish of most conversations were about deer hunting, looking for arrowheads and his time at the ranch.

He is gone, but will never be forgotten. His wit, humor, charm, twinkling eyes and mischievous smile, without question, will be missed! His personality and character stuck with you. His stories along with shots of Peach Schnapps and Apricot Brandy will remain a tradition, especially when trophy bucks are taken around our cleaning racks and campfires. They didn't make 'em any tougher and he has set the bar high for all to follow.

When Don took off for his final journey, he was met at the golden gates by his beautiful late wife, Mary and his sister, Margo. He left behind his sons, Brett Holden and his wife, Monica, Scott Holden; his daughters, Sheryl Holden, and Debrah Zakos; his brothers, Larry Holden, and Jim Holden; his sister, Carol Holle ; his partner, Barbara; his grandchildren, Chelsey Perez and husband, Ryan, Tyler Edwards, Brett Holden II , and Jonathan Zakos & wife Rachael; his great grandchildren, Lynlee Perez, Loki Edwards, Danny Edwards, Heaven & Kaiden Zakos; and numerous nieces and nephews.

God Bless you, Don "The Legend" Holden, we hope you find that Low Fence 300" giant on your final journey!

Memorial donations may be made in his memory to local Veterans Posts.
