Obituary

Our precious Mother, Dolly Sue Dawes Tucker, lived a long, happy and productive life. She passed away September 28, 2023, at the astonishing age of 92. She was born on Wednesday, June 24, 1931, to Tomy Grace and Roger Arthur Dawes Sr., in Tahoka, Texas, the first of six children.

Dolly became the bride of Hoyt Cornelius Tucker, son of Vera Jewel Tucker and O. D. Tucker Sr., in Richmond, Texas. She and Hoyt met in 1948 when he moved to Rosenberg to work in the oil field. Dolly and Hoyt were happily married for 64 years, until Hoyt died in 2015.

Greeting her in Heaven were her husband, her parents, her sisters, Ann and Betty, and her brothers, Roger and Tommy. Dolly was devoted to her family. She is survived by her children, Carolyn Todish and husband Rick, Evelyn Jo Meyer, Denise Tucker and David Tucker. Dolly also leaves her grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as "Mimi": David Lee Kaack, Cheryl and Troy Kunz, Julie and Adrian Page, Sarah and Jonathan Willman, Timothy and Megan Todish, and Kristin Tucker-Canales; her great-grandchildren: Jayla Foster, Taylor and Matt Honeycutt, Cody Shelton, Timothy Bleeker, Andrew Kunz, Madison Canales, Colton Willman, Reagan Bleeker, Landon Todish, Rylee Bleeker and Jaxon Canales; one great-great-grandchild: Noah Valencia; her lone surviving sibling is Don Dawes of Warne, North Carolina, and many much-loved nieces and nephews.

Dolly was a stay-at-home Mom. She was a member of the Parent-Teacher Association and was a Brownie and a Girl Scout leader, a 4-H leader and was a Sunday School teacher at First Presbyterian Church in Rosenberg, where she sang in the choir and served as president of the United Presbyterian Women. She also joined a bowling league, which she served as secretary/treasurer for many years. In addition, she was president of Tri-City Church Women and president of the Home Demonstration Council of Fort Bend County. Dolly took short spells to be employed, first as a Tupperware (which Hoyt dubbed "Tucker-ware") hostess, then at the Herald-Coaster to temporarily help out in classified, and then worked in the advertising department. In 1977, she was employed at Norwood Builders, where she was receptionist, later bookkeeper and finally, office manager. The Tuckers were members of First Presbyterian Church, where Dolly served on the board of deacons and the building committee and as an elder. She was also a lifetime member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3903, serving as chaplain, then as secretary.
