Delbert James Gajevsky, 81, passed away on Saturday February 17, 2018 while doing what he loved, working in the garden.
Delbert was born on February 26, 1936 at home in Orchard, Texas, to Joe and Hertha Gajevsky. There he worked on the family farm as a young man. He graduated Salutatorian in the Orchard High School Class of 1953. After high school he attended Wharton County Junior College for one year before enlisting in the United States Army. He met his future wife, Kathleen, when she was bridesmaid and he was a groomsman in their friends' Gene and Bessie Vasek's wedding. They married on July 30, 1960 and settled in Needville where they raised their 2 daughters. After serving his country for 2 years, he started working for W.A. Parish Power Plant in Thompsons, TX. There he worked as an Instrument/Control Technician, Supervisor and finished his career as Assistant Superintendent. He retired in 1992 after 31 years of service.
After retiring at age 55, he started his second career, his passion in life…farmer/rancher. He loved tending to his cattle, planting and harvesting his garden and being in the wide-open spaces of his farm in El Campo.
