Obituary

Chase Alton Van Slyke, age 40, was called to his heavenly home on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. Chase was born on October 10, 1983, at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Houston, Texas. After graduating from Lamar High School in 2002, he attended McComb School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated with a Business of Administration degree in May of 2006. He went on to receive his Doctor of Jurisprudence in May of 2014 from the University of South Texas School of Law.

He was passionate first about his large, boisterous, loving family, which included his beloved dog Charlie. After that, we all agree his passion was tied between his Texas Longhorns and flying over ski slopes. He had a healthy understanding of his exceptional skiing ability and was more than pleased to share this fact with anyone willing (or unwilling) to listen.

Chase had a tremendous work ethic and enjoyed great relationships working in his family's business, Roofworx, with his cousin Jake, and uncle John. He took great pride in completing projects for customers and caring for his team and coworkers.

In his spare time, when he wasn't skiing or watching the Longhorns, he loved being with his family. Whether it was playing golf with his Van Slyke uncles, camping or skiing with his siblings, he made a conscious effort to include his mother whenever possible. His childhood was idyllic, with phenomenal friends and all the outdoor shenanigans young boys love before technology got in the way.

On September 18, 2021, Chase met the love of his life, Mary, and the rest of his short life began. Her children, Daniel and Kenna, began to love him as a dad. They created a beautiful family and the four of them loved each other in a way that gave people hope. Chase and Mary were married in Breckenridge, CO on March 13, 2023 surrounded by their family and close friends on an incredible ski vacation.

His was the brightest smile in all of his many relationships. He would connect with and lift up everyone, in every room he walked into. It didn't matter who a person was or what they cared about, Chase found common ground and left people better by spending time with them. He laughed loud and infectiously, worked hard and effectively, loved beautifully and generously-- He was confident, kind, and humble in the most unique and unifying way.

Chase is preceded in death by his father, Allan Van Slyke Sr., his beloved Padre, Martin Dale Carden, his grandparents James and Bobbie Brown, Lester and Lois Van Slyke, and Helen and Orville Carden, his cousins Blake Grimsley, and Bronwyn and Caitlyn Van Slyke.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jane Van Slyke, children Daniel and Kenna Edwards, his mother Marsha Carden, sister Kiesha Youens and husband Mark, favorite brother Allan Van Slyke Jr. and wife Shayna, sister Lindsey Wiley and husband Kendall, and beloved nieces Campbell and Riley Youens, and nephews Braedon Van Slyke, Jackson Angelone, and Graham Youens, as well as numerous dear aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless family and friends.
