Obituary

Charles Raymond "Chuck" Aulbach, 91, passed peacefully on June 13, 2025, in Richmond, TX. Born on March 5, 1934, in Rochester, NY, to parents Charles and Gertrude Aulbach, his early years were shaped by family, friends, numerous odd jobs, and his faith.  A lifelong Catholic, Chuck graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas HS and went on to earn his degree from St. John Fisher University in Rochester. It was during those high school years at Aquinas that he met the love of his life and future wife, Helen Marie Torpey. They ultimately married and had almost 57 years together before Helen's passing in 2014.

While at Fisher, Chuck participated in the ROTC program and upon graduation enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served six years of active duty at bases in Virginia and Georgia and entered private life in 1963 with the rank of Captain. Following his military service, Chuck embarked on a lifelong career in sales, ultimately specializing in representing technically advanced equipment used in open heart and thoracic surgery. His work often brought him into operating rooms where he would 'scrub in' alongside heart surgeons and operating room nurses to observe his work in practice. His profession took the family from Syracuse, NY to Plano, TX in 1974. After 12 years in Plano, another opportunity brought him and Helen to their beloved Carlsbad, CA where they lived for over 25 years and where Chuck eventually entered into retirement. In 2011, they made their final relocation back to Richmond, TX to be closer to their sons and grandchildren.

As mentioned, Chuck and Helen were married in 1957 and together built a life centered around their four sons, extended family, friendships, their strong church life, and travel adventures. Chuck was an avid golfer from his youth when he learned the game as a caddie at the famed Oak Hill CC in Rochester. Helen took up the game as well and they often played together.

Chuck is survived by his four sons, James of Houston, TX,  John and wife Stephanie of Flower Mound, TX, Peter and wife Amy of Houston, TX , and Chris of Richmond, TX.  He was also a proud grandfather of Adam Aulbach, Ryan Aulbach and wife Lacey, Mac Aulbach, Sam Aulbach, and Helen Aulbach. Ryan and Lacey also blessed Chuck with three great-grandsons, Caleb, Aaron, and Joshua. He is preceded in death by wife Helen Aulbach and his parents, Charles and Gertrude Aulbach.

Known for his kind heart, sharp wit, spirit of generosity, humility, and zest for life, Chuck had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. He cherished the time spent with family above all else and delighted in sharing a good cocktail with friends old and new. His memory will live on through the many lives he touched with his humor, compassion, and unwavering love for those around him.  We will miss him surely, but consider his 91 years a well-lived life, and certainly one to be emulated.
