Obituary

Carrolyn Paisley Tabor, only child of Beatrice Rabe Paisley and Lawrence Kelly Paisley, passed peacefully from this earth on August 6, 2018. She was born in August of 1920 and lived her nearly 98 years growing up and as a young mother in Galveston until 1957, then as an accomplished mature wife and mother/Mimi in Del Rio until 1989, and finally as a settled and wise woman in Richmond, Texas until her passing. All who knew her, whether family or friend, valued her wisdom, wit, and no-nonsense approach to life. She is preceded in death by both parents and her husband, Joel Beverly Tabor.

During the years in Galveston, Carrolyn graduated from Ball High School, began a working career, married during World War II, and had her only child, Rhonwyn Rathert. She was active in the PTA, worked part-time, and participated in the Central Methodist Choir. She and Rhonwyn lived in the family home with her parents and Grandfather Rabe until she married Beverly Tabor and moved to Del Rio in 1957.

In Del Rio, Mrs. Tabor was involved in myriad civic groups as well as the church. She worked with the Chamber of Commerce, chaired the March of Dimes, and helped with international events involving Del Rio/Ciudad Acuna welcoming of President Eisenhower. She was a member of Mignonette Garden Club, Del Rio Civic Music Association, Del Rio Music Club, and Del Rio Study Club. As a member of First Methodist Church, she worked with the children's music program and eventually served as Choir Director there from 1964-1980. She was an accomplished soloist and prepared and gave many programs over the years.

Carrolyn Tabor is survived by her daughter, Rhonwyn Baker Weissman of Rosenberg; two granddaughters, Cara Baker Ortiz of Germantown, Tennessee, and Paisley Anne Baker of Sherman Oaks, California; three grandchildren, Charles-Allen, Dax, and Sybil Ortiz. Moving to Richmond following her husband's death in 1988, she was able to be a part of the granddaughters' final years in local schools and college experiences. Mrs. Tabor was an avid bridge player, and she enjoyed participating in the clubs and tournaments with her daughter. Over the years, she traveled extensively and was always ready to learn and experience new things. Bright and in full possession of her mind, she was interested to the last in reading and learning, working her crosswords, and discussing the happenings of the world.

Many thanks to the caregivers who assisted over the years when mobility became an issue.

A celebration of life will take place in October for family and invited guests. Family and close friends were able to say their goodbyes and share love during the brief weeks of hospice care this summer. Tributes and words of condolence may be left at www.garmanycarden.com

Favorite charities of Mrs. Tabor included National Federation for the Blind, Diabetes Foundation, and Paralyzed Veterans.
