Carolyn Bedford Beard's Obituary
A Memorial Service for Carolyn Beard of Richmond, TX, is set for 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors Chapel, 1201 Fourth Street, Rosenberg, TX 77471.
Carolyn Bedford Beard has joined her husband R.L. on a tee box in Heaven. She sank her last putt on January 3, 2017, and leaves behind her beloved family to mourn the loss of their cheerful and spirited mother and grandmother. Carolyn was co-owner of Beard's Bowling Alley and Beard's Floor Company in Rosenberg, Yale Street Driving Range in Houston, and Lilwin's Dress Shop and Gift Gallery in Richmond. She was an accomplished decorator, bowler, and golfer, and won the Fort Bend Country Club Women's Golf Championship three times. Carolyn was a member of the Women's Club of Rosenberg and the Women's Golf Association and served as president of the Golf Association numerous times. Known for her ability to turn a phrase, she frequently wrote opinions and wisecracks to this newspaper, and her puns are legendary within the family. She was also a gifted hostess; five pm at her house often meant cocktails, a sympathetic ear, and laughter. Carolyn was adventurous in her later years, swimming with stingrays in Cayman, visiting a volcano in Hawaii, attempting and failing at snorkeling in Mexico, walking the forests of New England and British Columbia, and whale-watching. She never met a casino she didn't like. The source of our love, the heart of our family, we lift a glass to the sparkle of her memory - preferably a Screwdriver.
She is survived by her children: Jay Beard (Michele), Neal Beard (Midge), and Lyn Beard Gaas (Richard); her grandchildren: Courtney, Lindsey, Emma, and Genny Beard; Richard, Michael, and Rachel Gaas; Katie and Carly Richey; sister in law Marge Beard; nieces and nephews; dear friend Jacque Roberts; her Golf Girls; and a host of friends and neighbors. We'll be seeing you.
