Obituary

Alice Jarisch Benson
September 6, 1933 – April 4, 2026

Alice Mae was born in 1933 to Lillian and Roy Lambert in Alabama. Her mother passed when Alice was 2 years old. She spent her childhood in East Texas, as her father was a trucker and dropped her off with various cousins. She and her father found their way to Rosenberg, TX, where she attended Rosenberg High School and met Edwin Jarisch. They were married 30+ years and had 4 children: Barry, Kathleen, Paula, and Penne.

Alice was an excellent seamstress, baker, and cross stitcher, with which she won many ribbons at the Fort Bend Co. fair. She began her working career at Jane Long Elementary in the materials department and progressed to the Administration Building, where she put her excellent shorthand and typing skills to use. She could often be found on nights and weekends typing thesis papers for people who got her name through word of mouth.

Above all, Alice loved the Lord. She was a true student of the Bible. She attended many Bible studies throughout the years and continued her daily devotionals until the last few months. She also worshiped through choir, Women's ministry, and delivering meals on wheels.

Alice attended First Baptist Church Rosenberg, where she was a member for over 60 years. She loved her church family, and many were blessed with her fabulous cakes and pies. She was deeply saddened by the church having to sell their building due to membership decline over the recent years.

Alice had many friends from the school district and church. She loved her birthday girls: Helen Carden, Mary Cook, Barbara Heitman, and Joann Davis, as well as Mary Shneider, who gave her such kind friendship throughout the years. Alice also cherished her friends in Women's ministry and her Sunday School class.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband Edwin Jarisch, son Barry Jarisch, daughter Kathleen Jarisch Henry, and daughter Paula Jarisch. She also lost her second husband, Tom Benson, whom she wed after being a widow for 17 years.

Alice is survived by her daughter Penne Mangel and her husband David, son-in-law Al Henry (Kathleen), and granddaughters Erin and Abby Mangel.

"So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
and exchange it some day for a crown."
